the process.

I am currently experimenting with working ableton into dj sets; hopefully, augmenting further the work that i've been doing.
I have realized that not a lot of people really know what i do when i say that i have made a "mixtape"-maybe someday i'll make a video of me on the controls, or something. i guess it also has do with the possibility of making someone else's work your own... or if that is even what a dj does, or if their purpose is only to rock a party.
can the dj be an author of a mix?
what i AM getting out of it is learning composition, that eventually is leading/progressing to my own organization/reorganization of sound elements. for the mixes, it's really only been 2 tracks at a time, so now it'll include the computer as my "third turntable."
i've been collecting and organizing sounds and keep finding that they get smaller and smaller as i am going.
In other words, i am working on a process that starts with finding sounds that i like, and organizing them visually.
tearing things apart and them putting them back together again.

Yes! I love found sounds!

And the mix is still shaking my rumpus - i have yet to sit down with it 'academically' - please bear with me. My shit's hectic right now.

Hope all is well over there. You two deserve all the awesomeness you can get.
