last manoeuvres.

read about this installation in wire.
each head sends "data" to the computer monolith; the claim is that the terracotta heads are responding to the environment. the music wasn't as ominous as i had hoped, but the input is also from pop music. and the swirling cameras don't really do it for me, but this has the best sound of any of the videos and it's by the installation creators themselves.
I have been very interested in this kind of music, where the computer responds to the environment, especially: what kind of algorithm involves a response to the environment? what is this really doing that can be considered a response to the environment? hmmm.

er... the sound is pretty nifty but if it's done by the creators I feel like it's been somehow orchestrated from top down, not bottom up - if that makes sense?

And how is it supposed to respond to the environment if the environment itself is not changing???

and darth vader??? really ????

I agree, though. Utterly exciting stuff. I love the idea of multiple users and intervention and input to create this collective, complex interrelationship that ends up being musical. Haute.
